What is it / What is it used to treat?
Lasers are an effective way of reducing the visible signs of aging and sun damage such as fine lines, broken capillaries and age spots.
How does it work?
A small laser light source is directed at the skin's surface. Rejuvenation is achieved by the laser's light stimulating cells called 'Fibroblasts' in the epidermis causing them to produce more collagen - the skin's natural scaffolding substance The laser can also be used during this treatment to target any broken
capillaries and age spots.
How is it performed?
Your trained technician will perform a pre-treatment skin typing analysis at your consultation visit. If the outcome of the skin type analysis is satisfactory, you will be able to commence your treatment at the same visit..
However, if the outcome of the skin typing analysis raises concerns or places you in a 'higher-risk' patient category, you technician will perform a 'spot test' to check your tolerance of the laser therapy and you will be requested to delay commencing your treatment until the outcome of the 'spot test' can be assessed.
The treatment itself is relatively painless and there is no need for anaesthetic cream. Your technician will keep you fully informed of what is happening throughout the treatment.
Do I need to take any precautions before having the treament?
You must avoid any kind of tanning for at least four weeks before the procedure. This includes sunbathing, tanning booths and applying fake tan.
How long will it last?
Once you have completed your course of treatments a monthly maintenance programme will be designed for you to ensure the results last for many months. Using the recommended homecare products will prolong and enhance the results of any professional treatment.
What are the risks?
No treatment can be guaranteed to present 'no risk', however we rarely see any problems following our peels and a thorough analysis of the skin is always performed by our aesthetic nurse or senior therapist. In order to avoid any unwanted side effects, such as scarring or pigmentation, it is important you follow the pre-treatment programme and aftercare.
Are there any special pre-cautions before undergoing the treatment?
Prior to a peel you will be expected to prepare your skin by using the recommended homecare products for two weeks. This will ensure that your skin responds most effectively and your recovery time is minimal.
Aftercare
Please be aware;
• You may experience a small degree of 'redness' in the area treated.
• Your skin will start to peel naturally and you must not attempt to peel off any loose skin. Any skin you attempt to pick off may go onto scar.
• You must not expose your skin to sun or sun bed's and the recommended UVA and UVB sunscreen must be worn for at least 6 months after a peel to avoid pigmentation.
• Home care products will be recommended by your nurse or therapist.
You may wish to bare these points in mind when planning your diary for the week of the treatment.

Cost
Laser skin rejuvenation is priced by 'timed' sessions. This is due to the varied location and size of the body areas that can be treated. Your technician will be able to advice you at your consultation visit, the likely number of sessions required to achieve your desired outcome.
